My Body Positive: Devante Dixon
So, in honor of Mental Health Awareness I feel it’s important to share my experience with starting and continuing a body positive journey. I’m sure we all have experienced times where we felt the need for improvement physically, mentally, and emotionally. A lot of times we don’t comprehend, it’s not just about how well we appear physically, but also internally. I’ve struggled with weight gain. I have a very high metabolism and I’m skeptical about using protein and mass enhancers. I’m afraid of not receiving the results I envisioned. What route can I take to see improvement in my physique while maintaining a positive mindset? Yoga. I decided my journey and that creating my own workout routine was the best fit for me. Whether it’s 10-15 minutes or a half hour, I dedicate time to my body and mind to focus on my goal, which is to gain muscles but remain toned and defined. Yoga helps build confidence, and yoga allows me to trust myself in all aspects. Now that I’m refocusing my mindset towards a positive outcome, I’m ready to add the protein. The dedication and ritual I’ve come up with is my foundation to secure the thought that I won’t get stuck. Nothing is more important than taking care of you and for yourself to not feel pressured to do what others may have benefited from. Everyone has a different journey, so take your own body positive journey.
