#SenseiSays (03/08/18)
Why is being called “Gay” still an insult in 2018? Why is “That’s Gay” still a thing?
The sad part is, it all comes back around to a lack of respect for softness, for femininity; which in turn shows an utter disrespect for women.
Ones inability to tap into all facets of who they are, leads them to belittle those who can. It’s a cycle that begins with parents/guardians and works its way down. It happens over and over again, men and women keeping children in mental and emotional boxes.
Gay doesn’t mean weak, and Woman definitely doesn’t mean soft. They’re stronger than all of us, and yet the proper respect constantly eludes them. And let’s be clear, softness is beautiful. There’s power in softness, I know this as most of my life has been spent understanding, cultivating and showing eXtreme softness to others. I couldn’t imagine being hard, cold, shut off all my life. There are pieces missing when you do that, you’re not in touch with the wholeness of who you are.
You can be strong without needing to be hard. You can be soft without needing to be weak. It’s of great importance that we not lean so heavily to one side when it comes to anything in life. Balance is key, and the sooner society gets that…the better.
I celebrate softness, I celebrate queerness and I celebrate women. To my fellow Cisgendered Men, it’s time for you to wake up. I love being a Black Man, and I celebrate it daily; however, I can’t get with the outdated insecurities. Learn to embrace what’s different from you, find your balance.
